Learn about existing applications
Before expanding, replacing, or improving an existing compressed air system, you should look for ways to eliminate waste in the current system。
A common mistake is to select a new device based on the size of only the hardware, and to expand and upgrade the system based only on expected growth。
However, in many cases, by addressing the inefficiencies of existing systems, it is possible to achieve the expected savings by purchasing even smaller equipment。
Here's a look at what you can do to improve the efficiency of your Atlas Copco compressed air system。
Separate unused devices
Use a simple manual isolation valve or electronic valve to isolate all unused production equipment to reduce the possibility of leakage。
It's like turning off the lights when you leave a room。Everyone knows it's the right thing to do, but it's easy to forget, wasting money, energy, and increasing your home's carbon footprint。
Hot but not for compressors
1. Keep cool
The position of the compressor affects its efficiency。Because air is less dense at higher temperatures, more energy is needed to compress the air。In order to ensure that compressed air equipment achieves greater efficiency and saves energy as much as possible, they should be installed in a cooler part of the facility to take away the heat generated by the compressor room in an appropriate manner。
2. Keep it clean
Many compressors can operate in dirty conditions, but that doesn't mean they should。Large amounts of dust in the air can clog the filter。For every 3 mbar drop in the pressure of the intake filter, energy consumption increases by about 1%, so a dirty compressor room can quickly add to your electricity bill。
Every 5°C increase in the suction air temperature of the compressor will result in a 2% efficiency loss, so please keep the heat dissipation of the air compressor station room cool!
Keep work pressure as low as possible
The operating pressure of the Atlas Copco air compressor system directly affects the energy requirements of the compressed air。The higher the work pressure, the higher the energy demand, resulting in higher energy costs and a higher carbon footprint。
On average, for every 1 bar increase in pressure, energy demand increases by 8%。
In addition, higher air pressure puts pneumatic components at high load, reducing their service life and increasing maintenance costs。
If the pressure required for most production processes is below the maximum pressure requirement, consider separating the higher and low pressure gas in the compressed air system and supplying the gas separately。
